Earlier this summer we collaborated with Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service to bring our unique brand of brassy silliness to children in East London!

Over the year we rehearsed with up to 70 young musicians from local schools (as well as the THAMES intermediate brass ensemble, lead by our very own Lucy) for three days, culminating in a spectacular performance in London’s iconic Barbican Centre. It truly was a night to remember for all involved. Special thanks must go to ‘Magic’ Mike Levis for his spooky ghost noises!

We thought you may like to see this amazing video of our performance of Ghostbusters, so here it is!

Round up | Durham Brass Festival 2016

The dust has settled on the Durham International Brass Festival 2016, and now we’ve had a long lie down in a darkened room to recover we wanted to share a few photos of an incredible week of brass music, partying, seeing old friends, and making awesome new ones!

We want to thank everyone so much who was involved in organising and running the week – Kate and her team in the office, all the volunteers who worked so hard to ensure the bands had everything they needed and to spread the word on the streets, and of course YOU, the audience, for coming and cheering and voting and ensuring it was truly a week to remember.

We were very chuffed to win the #teamoompah award for the week so an extra THANK YOU to all those who voted for us by tweeting the hashtag, and to our truly epic team of brass playing gods including Funky Style Brass and the Always Drinking Marching Band. We love you all!!

Oompah Brass at the Oxford Brookes University Summer Ball

We’ll be busy bees this summer, travelling all over the country and further afield to spread the word of Oompah far and wide! Highlights include:

19th – 21st June: Along with all eight other previous winners, we are returning to the amazing Haizetara International Street Band Competition to celebrate their 10th anniversary in style – with a Champions League of street bands! We can’t wait to meet and play with all the other bands; in particular the weird and wonderful Perhaps Contraption, and the mind-blowingly awesome Funky Style Brass.

We are extremely grateful to have been invited back to the Durham International Festival of Brass once again, where we will be visiting local schools, performing evening concerts in community spaces, and of course taking to the cobbles of the beautiful city centre on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July for Streets of Brass.

In October we’ll be heading across the Atlantic to sunny Bermuda for our annual appearance at the Frog & Onion Royal Naval Dockyard Oktoberfest. It’s a great honour to perform on such a beautiful and welcoming island and we are as ever indebted to the Island Restaurant Group for their support. This year we promise we won’t post any photos of lederhosen swimming shorts (or maybe we will)…

We continue our busy schedule of education & outreach this summer with trips to Highgate and Cranleigh schools, and the final installment of our Mayor’s Music Fund project “OOMPAH SPECTACULAH!” in association with the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham.

For our friends in the East of England you can find us at FolkEast Festival on 23rd August.

And finally, as ever, we’ll be at our weekly residencies in London – Fridays at Katzenjammers London Bridge, and Saturdays at the Octoberfest Pub Fulham. Check our gigs page for more information about these, and book early to avoid disappointment!

With love, from OB x

The year…

… 2014. What a fine vintage!

From 15 people in the back room of a pub, to 1500 people partying on a sandy beach (via 130 young brass players in a small room in Stratford), it really does feel like we’ve done it all this year.

Those following our adventures will have spotted Bohemian Rhapsody with a full symphony orchestra & choir, flying lower brass in Goodwood, serious faces on Newsnight, huge crowds in the northeast, beaches, more beaches, and of course, how could we forget Barney the super-dep on Vine (sorry mate).

You can still catch us before the end of the year at our regular residencies, and at the rather wonderful new holiday village Winterville in Victoria Park, East London on 2nd December! As always check our gigs page for the most up to date listings.

We’ve still got a little availability before Christmas, so get in touch ASAP via our contacts page to spice up your party, oompah style! Happy Holidays from everyone at Oompah Brass, and we’ll see you on the Highway to Hell…

Durham International Brass Festival 2014

Street bands from across the world came together for a grand finale in Durham's Market Place

We were so happy to return to the Durham Brass Festival last week (after only a flying visit in 2013), this time for the whole shebang. And it didn’t disappoint – three days on the bridges and squares of the city centre, 10 primary schools, three evening concerts, and of course the incomparable Miner’s Gala. It was an absolute pleasure to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and to perform alongside some of the world’s top street bands and brass ensembles. They were:

Beat n’ Blow @BeatnBlow
Funky Style Brass @FunkyStyleBrass
New York Brass Band @NYBrassBand
Kolektif Istanbul @kolektif
Les Bombz’Atomik @bombzatomik
Jaipur Kawa Brass Band
Jazz in my Pants @jazzinmypantsUK
Onyx Brass @onyxbrass

So, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came to support us and the festival! We saw so many hundreds of cameras and phones capturing our shows, and we’d love to see the results – if you have anything you think we might like then please do drop us a line at

Didn’t make it to the northeast? Check out the gallery below to get a taste of what you missed, and watch this great video of the festival grand finale!

What’s next for us?

As well as our weekly residencies, for those in the south of England you can hear Oompah Brass live in concert as part of the Petworth Festival on 1st August, and we’re very pleased to say we are now confirmed for all three days of Cornwall’s Looe Festival, from 19th-21st September. We’ll also be returning to the beautiful island of Bermuda for the second annual Royal Naval Dockyard Octoberfest, from 1st-4th October.
